Vegan pizza scrolls

I never really tried scrolls growing up for some unknown reason, I’ve recently discovered them and I want to make them over and over again with every flavour combination I can think of.  I made cinnamon scrolls for the first time a few weeks ago and wanted to make a just as soft and satisfying savoury dough roll and these really are just like delicious vegan pizzas, except smaller and much cuter because they’re rolled up and not as messy? These are a sure hit with everyone, Vegan and non vegans alike because everyone loves pizza – If they don’t then there’s something wrong. Now you can make your very own Vegan ham & cheese pizza scrolls at home!

Ingredients

2 1/2 cups plain flour                                                                                                                            4 tsp baking powder                                                                                                                          1/2 tsp salt                                                                                                                                           1/4 cup Nuttelex                                                                                                                                   1 cup soy milk                                                                                                                                   1/4 cup tomato paste                                                                                                                           1 clove garlic, crushed                                                                                                                         1 tomato, finely chopped                                                                                                                 1/4 brown onion, finely chopped                                                                                                   1/2 cup vegan ham bits                                                                                                                    3/4 cup grated vegan cheese

These are the vegan ham and cheese I used in my recipe, but you can use whichever brand you like! I purchased these at Vincent Vegetarian Food Mart in Footscray, VIC. Their soy meat and dairy alternatives are overwhelming in the best way possible and I could’ve spent hours browsing! These alternatives worked great and I had heaps leftover afterward to make vegan mini pizzas during the week!

Method

1 Preheat the oven to 200°C and line a baking tray.

2 Sift the flour and baking powder into a bowl before adding the salt.

3 Rub the Nuttelex into the flour until evenly distributed and slowly add the soy milk while stirring to form a dough.

4 Tip the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and roll out to an approximate 40cm x 30cm rectangle.

5 Spread the pasta sauce evenly over the dough before evenly scattering the garlic, tomato, onion, ‘ham’ and most of the vegan cheese.

6 From the shorter side, firmly roll the dough to create a log and slice into eight even pieces.

7 Press down very gently on each disc and place on the baking tray before sprinkling a little more vegan cheese on top.

8 Place in the oven for about 15 minutes or until the vegan cheese has melted and the dough has browned.

9 Serve warm and enjoy!
